Biography
David L. González-Álvarez was born in Girona, Spain, in 1986. He graduated in Computer Engineering from the University of Extremadura in 2009, and obtained his "Master Universitario en Computación Grid y Paralelismo" M.Sc. degree in 2010 and his "Master Universitario en Investigacion (MUI) en Ingenieria y Arquitectura en su Especialidad en Tecnologias Informaticas y de Comunicaciones" M.Sc. degree in 2012 at the same University. Finally, he received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the same university in 2013. Since then he continues working under the direction of Dr. Miguel A. Vega-Rodríguez in the Architecture and Logic Design (ARCO) research group. He has authored or co-authored more than 40 publications, including 15 Journal Citation Report (JCR) papers. His research interests are directly related to evolutionary and bioinspired algorithms, multiobjective optimization and parallel computing and supercomputing applied for solving important Bioinformatics problems.

- Computer Architecture and Logic Design Group (ARCO):
- Research interests:
- Evolutionary and bioinspired computing: Algorithms, heuristics, and metaheuristics design.
- Multiobjective Optimization: Problem resolution, algorithm adaptations.
- Parallel Computing, Supercomputing: MPI, OpenMP, high-performance computing.
- Bioinformatics: Genomics, DNA sequencing, motifs discovery.
- Participation in Research Projects:
- BIO: Optimización Multiobjetivo y Paralelismo en Bioinformática - TIN2012-30685 2013-2015 BIO is targeted to make contributions in optimization concerning the design of multiobjective (MO) algorithms able of solving difficult problems in a more efficient way that present (often monoobjective) tools, to the application of parallelism for improving both the performance and the throughput of the problem solutions; and finally, to address important real-world bioinformatics problems, being bioinformatics at present an important hot topic.
- Metaheurísticas Multiobjetivo y Paralelismo en Comunicaciones (MSTAR) - TIN2008-06491-C04-04 2009-2011 MSTAR uses multiobjective optimization (MO) from the perspective of metaheuristic techniques in order to solve many problems of multiple domains. Our node tackles problems in the communications and network areas, using advanced computing techniques like parallel and distributed computing, as well as reconfigurable and embedded computing for accelerating the algorithm computation.
